Sage Green Envelopes 5x7: A Delightful Combination of Techniques

When it comes to creating unique and eye-catching envelopes, there's no better way than combining different techniques and mediums. In this article, we'll explore the world of envelope crafting with a focus on sage green envelopes measuring 5x7 inches.

To begin, I decided to forego traditional coloring methods and instead opted for Tombow Markers, allowing me to color directly onto the rubber stamp. My loose plan was to use Distress Inks in combination with the direct-to-rubber technique to create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind design.

For this project, I used Tim Holtz Distress Cardstock as my base material and paired it with a Penny Black Slapstick/Cling stamp featuring an Alight design. The Happy Birthday sentiment from Stampendous was added using Gelato, blended with a brush for a soft, watercolor effect.

To add some extra dimension to the design, I used a Quickie Glue Pen from Tombow to apply glitter to the flower stamens and a small white Uni-ball Gel Pen to add subtle details. Even though the detail may be hard to see, I splattered gold paint from Peerless to create a beautiful background.

To really intensify the color of my design, I took my wet brush directly to the Gelato tube, allowing me to control the amount of pigment applied. The more water on the brush, the lighter the color, making this technique perfect for achieving subtle shading and blending.

Next, I dipped a round brush in water and picked up the scribbled Gelato color onto the brush, proceeding to watercolor my image using Strathmore watercolor paper. This technique is incredibly versatile, allowing me to create a wide range of effects depending on the amount of water used.

For today's Watercolor Challenge, I decided to focus on using Gelatos by Faber Castell as my chosen coloring medium. By repeating this step four times, I was able to achieve some truly stunning results. I even laid another panel of watercolor paper on top of the first dry panel and spritzed the rubber again before stamping a second image.

If certain areas weren't well defined, I simply proceeded to paint where color was needed. At first, I worked on painting the flowers, allowing them to dry before moving onto the leaves and stems. Once I found the perfect Penny Black cling stamp featuring la fleur rouge, I grabbed The Misti and began the technique of painting directly on the rubber, misting with water and stamping onto watercolor paper.

Finally, I used Luminart Twinkling H20's to add a touch of shimmer and sparkle to my design. Although these paints are no longer available, any metallic paint will work beautifully in their place.
